About DELL
Dell Technologies Inc., commonly known as Dell, is a multinational technology company headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. Founded by Michael Dell in 1984 while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin, the company originally operated under the name PC's Limited. The company changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation in 1988 and began to expand globally. In 2016, Dell Inc. merged with EMC Corporation, and the combined entity was renamed Dell Technologies, which now includes Dell, Dell EMC, Pivotal, RSA, Secureworks, Virtustream, and VMware.
Dell is renowned for its innovations in supply chain management and electronic commerce, particularly its direct-sales model and its "build-to-order" or "configure to order" approach to manufacturing—delivering individual PCs configured to customer specifications. Dell was a pure hardware vendor for much of its existence, but with the acquisition in 2009 of Perot Systems, Dell entered the market for IT services. The purchase of EMC in 2016—the largest technology merger in history—has transformed Dell into one of the largest technology companies in the world, with a significant stake in the enterprise IT market.
The company's product line includes personal computers, servers, smartphones, televisions, computer software, computer security and network security, as well as information security services. Dell's mission is to be the most successful computer company in the world at delivering the best customer experience in markets they serve. In doing so, Dell will meet customer expectations of highest quality; leading technology; competitive pricing; individual and company accountability; best-in-class service and support; flexible customization capability; superior corporate citizenship; and financial stability.
Dell's business strategy involves a complex ecosystem of interconnected businesses that collectively support the company's overall mission. This includes Dell Client Solutions Group, which focuses on PCs and tablets; Dell EMC Infrastructure Solutions Group, which handles servers, storage, and networking; and Dell Software Group, which develops and sells a broad range of software solutions.
Dell places a strong emphasis on sustainability and corporate responsibility. The company aims to minimize its environmental impact through energy-efficient products, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable packaging. Dell also invests in community engagement and philanthropic initiatives, focusing on education and digital inclusion to help communities thrive in a digital world.
Innovation is at the heart of Dell Technologies. The company invests heavily in research and development, driving innovation to deliver superior solutions in information technology. By integrating hardware, software, and services, Dell aims to provide the most complete solutions to its customers, ranging from consumers to large enterprises.
As Dell Technologies continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its founding principles while adapting to meet the ever-changing needs of its customers. With a robust global presence and a comprehensive portfolio of technology solutions, Dell is poised to lead the industry in new and exciting directions.
